Legal assistance is desperately needed for victims of domestic violence. Women and children who have suffered repeated exposure to psychological and emotional torture often develop a deep sense of social insecurity. The victim's integrity is often in question and victim is repeated bullied and ostracized by their neighbors and her peer groups. Eventually their behavior is viewed as a form of mental illness or retardedness.
For these reasons, in many communities, residents will mistake a victim's maladjustment to societies' norms as a sign of arrested development. The victim is perceived to be lacking family support,  unaccepting of social normalcy and is generally characterized as  socially dysfunction. The symptoms are exacerbated after she tries to resume her life. Victims are harassed repeatedly by exposure to the bias and stereotypes which plague communities and further harm the victims who are now the survivors of both public humiliation and the debilitating effects of post traumatic stress that results from prolonged exposure to an environment contaminated by the evils of domestic violence.

Victims in our society are eventually ostracized within their communities. Socially isolated, they seem to eventually succome to the violence. The aggressive attacks on their emotional well being and the repeated criminal acts of mental manipulation from their batterer. The scars from a long exposure to mental cruelty are often exacerbated by public accusations of mental instability. Slandarded with accusations of impaired judgment and poor decision making skills victims remain traumatized assaulted and condemned now by their society. What most people don't understand is that psychological manipulation is often the first method of assault used by abusers. Steeped in denial and with no help, counseling or accountability for their actions. Batterers show no remorse as they are left unhindered to strike again and again, making damaging offensive attacks on the very people that they claim to love and care about the most.
